How do i change the radiator in a 1968 chrysler newport, i have no money but have the radiator to put in

i want to try and install the radiator myself . i have the radiator but it looks difficult to take it out because the radiator is enclosed and what about the fan? any suggestions? How do i change the radiator in a 1968 chrysler newport, i have no money but have the radiator to put inIn this old car it is a simple task.

1. Drain the coolant if it isn't already gone.

2. Remove the hoses, depending on th clamps it will require a screwdriver or a pair of pliers. Prying the hoses off may require some brute force but they come off easier with pushing than pulling. work your screw driver around under the lip of the hose until you can push it off.

3. These cars are almost all automatic and there will be two steel lines for the transmission coolant these must be removed with two wrenches. One to hold the radiator fitting and one to turn the line fitting. A small amount of transmission fluid will leak out but not much.

4, Loosten the fan shroud from the radiator by removing the screws that hold it to the radiator and push it back over the fan toward teh engine. Don't bother to remove it.

5.The radiator should have four bolts that hold it to the body of teh car. Once these are removed it should lift out.

The replacement is done in teh reverse order.

Full guide with pictures herePlease tell me how to change a radiator in my house?switch off boiler and controls, tie up ball valve in header tank (smaller one of the two ), find a drainvalve and attach a hose to it and feed outside. place a towel underneath the valve and open it clockwise. after a few mins, open the bleed valves on upstairs rads and then the downstairs ones ( test first ). when water stops from the hose, you should be safe. hold the rad valve upright when you loosen the nuts. filling is the reverse

hope this helpsPlease tell me how to change a radiator in my house?Basically you turn off the valve at each end (one is often under a cap as it is only used at this time), undo the big nuts that hold the valves to the radiator, slightly pry the joints apart so that the valve is clear of the radiator at both ends (be prepared with bowls and towels to catch the water that will drain from the radiator at this stage), then lift the radiator off its wall mounting. To fit the new one, do everything in reverse. You need to pay attention to getting a water-tight seal when you reconnect the valves, PTFE packing tape is often useful, wound generously around the thread. The whole job need only take half an hour. Please tell me how to change a radiator in my house?you have three choices drain down the system or close the valves at each side of radiator and disconnect radiator after emptying it 3rd leave valves on radiator and freeze pipes and disconnect depending on size of radiator if full of water it will be heavy If you drain down system it gives opportunity to renew inhibitors and get any gunge from systemPlease tell me how to change a radiator in my house? Most of these answers scare the Hell out of me, as I'm a plumber.

You did'nt say why you wanted to change it.

Do you wish to replace because its old fashioned, and you have seen a modern convector.?

Was it leaking.?

You wish to replace because you fancy a double convector,as it gives out double heat .

If it is your intention to replace like- for- like, there should be little problem. Turn off the valves on each end of the rad, and get a friend armed with a bucket, and a roasting tin from the kitchen, to catch the water that will run out when you remove the rad

Using a wrench, undo the nut, catch the water in the tin, be careful as the valve has a tendency to rotate,. Undo other valve. Lift rad off brackets, and immediately turn upside down and out the door.,

If the rad that you intend fitting is either a` double or a different size call a plumber.

If black water comes out , put FERNOX inhibitor into the system

this is magnetite, black rusr from YOUR radiators.

Try not to drain the system, new water contains too much oxygen..Please tell me how to change a radiator in my house?Depends on whether you have a combi boiler or hot water storage tank.

Combi turn off water and boiler drain system (use old hosepipe to outside or drain) undo radiator valves with Stilson or equivalent replace radiator use new olives and PTFE tape on valve switch power and water back on and use fill up loop to regain water pressure in system

Hot water storage tie up ball cock on tank switch off water and boiler drain system replace radiator as descibed switch back on and untie ball cock bleed radiators to release air

*** radiators will still have blackish water in them protect carpets and introduce corrosion inhibitor or better still find a plumberPlease tell me how to change a radiator in my house?right, i had to change 22 of these buggers in our hose... bloody nightmare, ...

follow these steps

1. close the valves on eachside ( there the ones on top...usually turn the white things... but you may need pliers.

2. slightly loosen the main fitting into the radiator... and i mean slightly...remember that its full of water!!! so you'll have to drain it... (good idea to put towel down as well just incase you spill a bit

3. once drained down undo the fitting fully (carefull there might be a tiny bit of water left in.

4. lift it off the wall ( a good way to stop ant tiny spillage is to flip the radiator upside down once off the wall)

5. get a new radiator out of package

6. lift the radiator back onto the wall (make sure it's clipped on to the backets)

7. put the main fitting back together...... tight! so it doesn't leak!... get some PTFE tape and wrapp it around the fitting..... it helps seal it.

8. make sure they are tight, and then allow the water back into the radiator by turning the white knobs again ( or getting the pliers)

9. job done

hope it helps......

If you buy the 100% antifreeze concentration from the auto store, you mix it into another 1 gallon jug with half distilled water (a 50/50 % mix like the one you buy premixed). How much water do i need to add to a toyota previa after iv change the radiator?depends on where one lives but its mostly two gallons of coolant rest waterHow much water do i need to add to a toyota previa after iv change the radiator?I generally buy two gallons of coolant and two gallons of purified water. Never use tap water - the minerals will clog the radiator tubes. If the coolant is available in premix, just buy three gallons of that. Otherwise keep the mixture 50/50 unless the manual says different. You can expect to use an entire gallon of coolant and part of the other.

I have a saxo furio 1.4 8 valve and am about to change the radiator, how much antifreeze do i put in?

First leave the old radiator in and buy a Prestone radiator flushing T in any auto parts store. Splice into a heater hose open the drain T in the bottom of the radiator and catch the old coolant in a large oil drain pan. Hook up a garden hose to the T that's been spliced in tour heater hose and turn on the water to the garden hose. Start your car and let idle for 5 minutes. Shut the car off and close the garden hose supply. Let the radiator completely drain and remove it and bolt the new one in.

If you still have the owners manual inside the glove compartment look up the cooling systems capacity in the specification section. If you don't have one go to your local library and look your car up or buy a specialived book on yout car at an auto parts ot book store. You must know the capacity before the next step. First pour in 1/2 the total capacity with 100% aantifreeze. Fill the remainder with distilled water. At this time you may not be able to add much or any water. Put the radiator cap back on and start the car. Make sure the coolant recovery is completely full of the remainder of the antifreeze or distilled water. Get behind the wheel and watch the temperature gage. If it appears to start to get hot shut it off for at least an hour. Water and or antifreeze will be drawen back into the system displacing the air that was locked in as you filled the radiator with antifreeze. Keep the coolant recovery tank at least 3/4 filled when cold with the remainder of your antifreeze and distilled water. After you drive the car for a couple of weeks the antifreeze and water will have cycled back and forth into the coolant recovery tank. Invest in an inexpensive antifreeze tester in any auto parts store. Test the antifreeze from the coolant recovery tank. It should test -35 to -40 degrees below zero.I have a saxo furio 1.4 8 valve and am about to change the radiator, how much antifreeze do i put in?Probably a gallon sound right?I have a saxo furio 1.4 8 valve and am about to change the radiator, how much antifreeze do i put in?fill it until it is full.

How to change lower radiator hose on a S10 blazer 1997?

First, drain the anti-freeze into a bucket, there will be a wing nut type device on either the bottom or lower sides of the radiator. next, remove the lower hose clamp at the radiator, you'll need either a flat head screwdriver, a proper size nut driver, or a pair of pliers, depending on the type of clamp. Once you have the clamp off, pull the hose off of the radiator. Now follow the hose to where it attaches to the motor, %26amp; remove the clamp on that end, %26amp; pull the hose completely off. Install the new hose in the reverse order, starting at the motor %26amp; working back to the radiator. Don't forget to put the clamp on the new hose BEFORE you put the hose into place, otherwise you'll have to pull the hose back off, put the clamp on, %26amp; put the hose back into place. This can be a real p.i.t.a. because there is usually little space to work in, %26amp; once you get the hose into place, you really don't want to have to pull it back off. Once the hose %26amp; clamps are in place, make sure both clamps are tight, close the drain plug (very important! lol), %26amp; fill the radiator up with the manufacturer's recomended anti-freeze. • How do i change the radiator on a 2003 dodge neon?If you don't own a repair book on your car, go to Auto Zone and get one. It makes things alot easier.

Make sure your radiator is drained first. There is a drain plug at the bottom of it.

You'll need wrenches, some pliers or a screwdriver (depending on how the hoses are clamped on... there's a hose on top and a hose on bottom. Try not to break the hoses, or those will need replacing, too), and a jack if you can't get under your car.

Unclamp the hoses from the radiator, leave them connected to the motor. If the fans are connected to the radiator, remove them by undoing the bolts. If they have a wiring harness, just unclip it and it should come out with the radiator.

Take the bolts out of the top of the radiator. Check the bottom to see if there are bolts there, too. The radiator should slide out. Don't lose the bolts.

If the fans were connected to the radiator, put them back on before you put in the new radiator. Make sure the drain plug is in. Put the new radiator on by following the directions in reverse order. Be careful not to damage any of the cooling fins.

Fill up with 50% coolant, 50% water. Start the car, let it warm up. CAREFULLY remove the radiator cap to make sure fluid level is still full. If not, add more coolant (while car is running). If fluid levels are full, you're good to go!

    Hope this helps.

PLEASE make sure the engine is cold. When you put that hose back on be sure and get that clamp good and tight. If you want to search further there is usually a plug somewhere on the bottom tank of the radiator but like you said they can be in very inconspicuous spots and tough to get to. Either one will work fine. When you refill be sure and run the engine at an idle and slowly introduce your 50/50 mix of radiator fluid and water. Should I go to the dealer or is a regular repair shop ok?How much does it cost to change a radiator thermostat in an Xterra at a repair shop? You are looking at about 1/2-3/4 hr. labor at about $80/hr. They will probably charge you $20 for a $5 thermostat. And most likely will add coolant to the job and hit you for ~$12 for a gallon. (Should only need 1 or 1 1/2) They might try to throw in hose clamps or some other small item.Just make sure a thermostat is your problem. If you haven't had it checked out by a professional, you should. Maybe you could find a local radiator shop that would check it out for free. How much does it cost to change a radiator thermostat in an Xterra at a repair shop?the dealer is not always your best bet go to a shop that does A/C repairs or a good local shop, cause an A/C shop deals with this on a daily bases, why the Vehicle is pretty new why does it need a radiators , accident maybe ?How much does it cost to change a radiator thermostat in an Xterra at a repair shop?First, are you still under warranty? cause it shouldn't cost you anything if so. If not, dealers are going to be the most expensive for work, and parts too. Generally at a shop you are looking at 40-50 dollars an hour for labor , and whatever they are going to charge you for parts. They will probably log a thermostat charge at about 1-2 hrs, so check around. Also ask how much they charge for the part, you also have the option of buying the part first and bringing it to them to install it, however some shops don't gaurantee work if you bring your own parts, so check on that too. Lastly , if you are up to it - you could consider getting a repair book for the Xterra and tackle replacing the part itself, something like a thermostat isn't usually a hard job, and you'd save major money there. How much does it cost to change a radiator thermostat in an Xterra at a repair shop?Repair shops generally charge $70 an hour plus or minus. Probably an hour for the repair. Thermostats are not difficult to replace. Offer $50 to a competent neighborhood mechanic to get it done. And why do you think the thermostat is faulty ?

Do I have to take the whole radiator out?How do I change the radiator fan in a 99 Chevy Cavalier 2.2?Yes, you do need to take the whole radiator out. How hard is it to change a radiator in my 1990 pontiac bonneville and what tools will i need?

It only has a single cooling fan so i beleive it is the 28 inch radiator. How hard is it to change a radiator in my 1990 pontiac bonneville and what tools will i need? This is a pretty easy repair. You will probably only need a 10mm and 13mm socket along with some hose clamp pliers or pliers with a 90 degree bend to remove the spring clamps. I also recommend a pick tool to go around under the hoses to loosen them and make it easier to remove without damage to either the hose or fitting. You'll want to remove any shrouds, disconnect the cooling fan connector and remove the fan (only has two bolts holding it in), remove the bottom hose at the radiator to drain the coolant and take the reservoir hose off the radiator filler neck then remove a couple of bolts to lift the radiator out. Be careful not to hit the condensor fins or you could create an A.C. leak. After getting it all back together it's very important to double check that the cooling fan connector is hooked back up and it you used the same hoses, make sure the spring clamps rest in the same marks on them when you install again and then spread the ears apart to tighten the clamp so that it seals well. Fill the radiator, start the car and keep adding coolant until it will not take anymore, then let it cool off for several hours and repeat this procedure. The next day, check coolant level again because when it is full cold it will suck all of the coolant available into the system and out of the radiator and reservoir. I strongly recommend using green coolant and not switching to Dex cool because the Dex takes a long time to protect, and when it comes into contact with air it forms the infamous %26quot;gel%26quot;.How hard is it to change a radiator in my 1990 pontiac bonneville and what tools will i need?First you need to drain the coolant. The drain cock is usually on the same side as the hose near the top of the radiator. If it is still good put it into a container that you can close so it does not get contaminated. Next use a wrench or ratchet to remove the fan housing and fan. There should be a wire harness you will need to disconnect. Next you need to disconnect the three hoses. Two on the back face of the radiator and one connected to the cap. Then there will be two or four bolts holding the radiator in place. Find and take those out. The radiator should pull straight out. Some models have a cross member that will need to be removed to access anything I described. It will have four bolts right on top. Tools needed are wrench, ratchet, sockets, closeable container, and possibly a small hose for the drain cock.

How can I change the radiator in my 1993 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited?

It's a 6 Cy 4.0 li I just need to know how to get the radiator out.How can I change the radiator in my 1993 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited?I just did one of those last year. I hope my memory don't fail here. Of course, remove the fluid by opening the drain cock, located toward the bottom. You may need pliers to do this. Remove the radiator cap to help drain the fluid. Catch the fluids, cause it will kill animals if they should drink it. It has glucose in it making it sweet, and inviting to wild life. It will render them a very slow death. Next you must remove the fan blade. I believe this will require a special set of tools. They are usually available for rent at any good parts house. The fan should be screwed on the end of the water pump. This can be tricky, and you may want to help with this. The tread is right handed, and the fan come off counter clockwise. After that feet, remove the fan shroud, (2 or 4 bolts) and take the fan blade and shroud out together. Next. remove the transmission coolant lines, then the radiator bolts or top bracket bolts, and lift it straight up and out. Sounds pretty simple, but its not. Be extra careful installing it as not to knock a hole in it.Take your time and try not to loss your religion when removing the fan. LOL. I forgot to mention removing the radiator hoses. How can I change the radiator in my 1993 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited?I would imagine you just undo some bolts and take off the hoses. It should just slide out and the new one should just slide in.How can I change the radiator in my 1993 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited?Remove the upper and lower radiator hose clamps. Remove the radiator retaining bolts. Remove the radiator. Install the new radiator. Start changing your coolant every two years or keep replacing radiators as you wish.

How do you change a radiator?

I am removing my old radiator from my bathroom and replacing it with a heated towel rail. But i don't have a clue how to take the old one out without hot water leaking everywhere some help please? How do you change a radiator?Drain the water cut the water off .How do you change a radiator? If the new rad is not exactly the same size, you will need to drain the whole system and do some serious plumbing to connect up the pipework to the new valves. If it is exactly the same size, you can disconnect the old rad. Turn off both valves (anti-clockwise). Put receptacles and old towels underneath the valves. Carefully unscrew the nuts on either side of the rad. Make a note of the number of turns required to close the return valve. Water will start to drain out (probably very dirty water). Once it has drained away you should be able to lift the rad off its bracket and fit the new rad reversing the above procedure (wrap PTFE tape around the threads).

How to convert my 96 Camaro rear drum brakes into disc brakes?

how can i change my rear drum brakes into disc brake? and are they better? and how much would the rough cost be?How to convert my 96 Camaro rear drum brakes into disc brakes? Are they better? Absolutely. Difficulty? Well, its a bit involved - I haven't done them on a 4th gen, but on the earlier, you were best off swapping an entire rear axle from a disc-equipped car, or buying an aftermarket kit. On top of that, you need the proportioning valve and master cylinder for a 4 wheel disc equipped camaro.

I'd estimate the cost (with effective scrounging) to be about 1000-1200 bucks.

You can improve the braking performance of your rear drums by switching over to performance shoes on your 96. While they're not the equivalent to the disc setup, it will improve the grip and fade on your drums, and pairing that with performance pads on the front will net you a very capable braking system for a fraction of the cost of the upgrade. Unless you autocross or are into 0-100-0 contests, you may find that to be a very effective alternative. How to convert my 96 Camaro rear drum brakes into disc brakes?Easiest option, get a used rear end from a camaro that had disc brakes. What that guy said.

Besides, you'd also be getting that limited slip differential (Positrac) as well.

What is not to like about that?

$200 part or some stupid $500 kit?

    Exactly.

No prop valve necessary if I recall.

98 Toyota 4Runner rear drum brakes want to know if I can change it to disc like the front?

I don't like the drum brakes on the back. I was wondering if Toyota or maybe another after market company makes a kit to change the back from drum to disc. If so how much does it cost? Where do I find it?How long will it take me to do this? Thanks.98 Toyota 4Runner rear drum brakes want to know if I can change it to disc like the front? You can, but it will be expensive, a lot of work, and have no real benefit.

Most of your braking power comes from the front brakes. The rears don't need the power of a disc setup.

And while it is more of a pain to do a drum brake job, rear drum brakes wear very slowly; you probably only have to do read drums every 60,000 or so miles (more or less depending on how you drive),98 Toyota 4Runner rear drum brakes want to know if I can change it to disc like the front?your gonna be better off jus leaving it the way it is. Central Heating. How to drain & refill a combi boiler [ Vaillant VCW GB EH ]system to change radiators?.?

It`s a very simple task but I have no experience with this style of boiler.Central Heating. How to drain %26amp; refill a combi boiler [ Vaillant VCW GB EH ]system to change radiators?.?You do not need to drain and refill. All you need to do is to turn off the radiator valves and disconnect the them. The water will remain in the pipes. The radiator will be full of black water so put down plastic sheets and drain into a bucket. Then when you reconnect, the system should automatically fill. Best of luck. Leave bleed valves open at the bottom rads and when they are full the water will leak out. Then shut the bleed valves. Leave the upstairs ones open and do the same.Central Heating. How to drain %26amp; refill a combi boiler [ Vaillant VCW GB EH ]system to change radiators?.?Ensure ALL of your radiator valves throughout the entire house are turned ON. You should have little 'drain off' valves on the lowest points of the heating pipe work or on the down stairs radiators. If your boiler is at the lowest point of the system then you may find a drain off beneath the boiler as well. Attach a hose pipe to one of these and open it. This will start the draining process, as you hear the system draining, go upstairs and open the bleed nipples on all the upstairs radiators, you'll hear a sucking noise as you do this, if water comes out then wait a few minutes before trying again. Doing this will allow air into the system which will force all the water out of the drain off you've already opened. If you have more than one drain off then, after the first has run dry, tighten it up and repeat the proceedure with all the other drain off valves. This will ensure you've got every last drop of water out of your system.

Once you've done the work you need to do, and with the system still empty, tighten up ALL the drain off's you've opened before taking off the smallest radiator. Shut both the radiator valves and remove the 1/2%26quot; cap from the top of the radiator. Pour your inhibitor into the radiator, replace the cap and reconnect the radiator opening both the valves once you've done so.

Ensure you have tighten all the bleed nipples on the upstairs radiators and go to the boiler. You'll probably see a thin silver braided hose right up underneath the boiler close to the water and gas connections. On each end of this hose there will be a small black tap, turn one tap fully to the open position (they will only turn 90 degrees and maybe quite stiff) then turn the second tap slowly, you'll hear water rushing, this means the system is filling. Keep your eye on the pressure gauge on the front of the boiler, when this reaches 1.5 bar turn both taps off fully. Start bleeding with the lowest radiator, keep going back to the boiler to check the pressure and top up where necessary. Once all the radiators have been bled, top the pressure back up to between 1 and 1.5 bar and you're ready to fire the boiler.

Hope this helps?Central Heating. How to drain %26amp; refill a combi boiler [ Vaillant VCW GB EH ]system to change radiators?.?ANF is quiye correct. You do not have to drain the whole system, just drain the rads you want to change.

  • How to change radiator coolant in a 1997 ford taurus?

Also remember the antifreeze you drain from your car is toxic so you need to collect it and dispose of it properly. I have a 2002 focus and you have to remove the bottom hose on it.How to change radiator coolant in a 1997 ford taurus? There should be a plug at the very bottom of the radiator, but in some radiators they don't have one. Just pull of the bottom radiator hose and let it drain that way, then put it back on. Then refill it.How to change radiator coolant in a 1997 ford taurus?Remove the lower radiator hose at the radiator. How to change radiator coolant in a 1997 ford taurus? On the side of the radiator, down by the bottom, there should be a drain screw (pit cock). Unscrew this and it will allow the coolant to drain. You will also want to loosen the radiator cap to release the vaccume. Make sure that you drain it into a container and dispose of it properly. Cat and dogs love the antifreeze, but it will kill them. Once the radiator has drained, tighten the pit cock and refill with antifreeze. If you don't want to mess with it, most quick oil change places will flush it out for you pretty cheap. I think the one by my house charges $15.00 or so? Not too bad considering a gallon of antifreeze costs about $12.00. Also, follow the directions on the antifreeze for dilution. You don't want to put straight antifreeze in your car. It needs to be mixed w/ water. Any problems, just let me know. I'll be happy to help. Good Luck.

tho, I would recommend removing the mounting bolts holding it in before trying to take it out.How hard will it be for me to change radiator in my truck?I'll state the obvious - drain all the water first.

Commonest problem is air locks in the system. You have to fill it from the bottom up, put a water hose into the bottom hose and push water through until it starts to flow out of the engine side of that bottom hose connection.

Connect up the hose, top up the overflow tank, start the engine and let it circulate with the rad cap OFF so you can see it bubbling around, give a few minutes, turn off, let it cool top up again as needed replace cap.

    That should do it.

Check your hose connections after a day or two, they will probably take another turn or two of the screwdriver.

That said everything is different from the master Cly to the rear parking brake cables and hydraulic hoses and tubing.. It could get costly quickly. I know only anti lock brake sentra had disks rear the 1994 year model. You could get used parts out of a autorecyclers yard. They don't like being called junk yards. I have never seen a rear wheel drive sentra conversion. If you want a 350Z get one it would be cheaper and performance parts will be available. Good LuckHow do you change rear drum brakes to disk on a Nissan Sentra?I have to totally agree with John Paul...These are some ambitious and potentially expensive mods for that old car. As much as I like Nissan and agree they can run and run you gotta worry if or when the rust will start.... The biggest killer of these cars is not mechanical but body cancer....I would drive it the way it is and save your money...If your heart is set on the rear wheel drive consider a Z car--if you like the Sentra a R or Spec V are what is in your future.

How do i change radiator coolant on a 96 Pontiac Grand Prix?

My Low Coolant light keeps flashing and I need to figure out how to stop it. My radiator is full and so is the resevoir tank. The manual says something about a bleed off valve. Please help by giving me step by step directions. Can you completely drain the radiator, like at the bottom of the radiator? How do i change radiator coolant on a 96 Pontiac Grand Prix?there should be a drain at the bottom of the radiator that you open up,remove the cap,and loosen the drain and get all that you can from it,to get it all from the engine on the side of the engine block, there's a bolt on either side of the block that will drain that, this should get all of the old coolant out, then you re-tighten everything back up,and start re-filling it all, have at least two gallons on hand when doing this, and use a 50/50 mix in it at all times, start it and makes sure its 100% full after it reaches operating temperature, good luck on it.How do i change radiator coolant on a 96 Pontiac Grand Prix?your welcome.

How do i change radiator coolant on a 96 Pontiac Grand Prix? The bleed off valve is to release trapped air in the system. It should be located on top of the thermostat housing. But that would not set off the light. Look for a loose or disconnected wire near the overflow tank. It might have a low level indicator that got disconnected. How do i change radiator coolant on a 96 Pontiac Grand Prix?Sound's like you may have a problem with the coolant level sensor or perhaps you're reservoir doesn't have enough coolant in it and when you are moving or turning it's causing it to flash. You can drain the radiator from the petcock at the bottom. It kind of looks like a wingnut.
