The engine is overheating after about thirty minutes of driving.
The oil and anti-freeze levels are fine.
The top radiator hose gets hot, as does the radiator itself.
The heater works fine, blows hot air.
From advice I received, I am gambling on changing the thermostat, but would like to be sure I'm not wasting time and money.
Also, does anyone know of any links which have videos or diagrams of how to change a 94 Honda Accord thermostat?
Thanks! How can I tell if I need a thermostat or a new water pump for my 94 Honda Accord?start with a thermostat and see.
all you have to do is start at the top hose on your radiator and follow it to the top of your engine. under that spot of the hose is the thermostat. loosen that and take out the thermostat.
Make sure you Have a thermostat and gasket Prior to taking it apart, unless u have another way to an auto store.

Cracked radiator on my 1997 toyota t-100?
Just got an oil change on my truck and they told me that I had a cracked radiator. Question is, is there any temporary fix I can do for like a week or so until payday when I can pay to get it fixed. Should I just keep a gallon of water on me and keep filling the radiator. Also I know nothing about auto maintenance, not even how to change oil. Please help me because I am broke until payday.Cracked radiator on my 1997 toyota t-100?There are products you can buy at auto parts store to temporarily plug holes in radiators. They're called %26quot;Stop Leak%26quot; or something like that; but I don't know how well they will work on cracks or how much they cost. But whatever you do, keep an eye on your temp. gauge and carry water with you.Cracked radiator on my 1997 toyota t-100?I used this stuff I picked up at pepboys called PLASTIC TANK REPAIR made by CARGO, stuff worked great, I have a car that is still out their for 2 months after repair, if your stuck and need a fast repair use this stuff.
You can also take your radiator out and take it to a radiator repair shop and they can just replace the one tank that is leaking, works fine too
Another option is to just buy a new radiator, depending on the car you have they cost between $89.00 to $150.00
Just make sure you replace the thermostat after either repairkids hair How to clearn a down comforter

Where on the internet can I find information on when to perform regular vehicle maintenance operations?
Nearly every time I go to an oil change place, they recommend a random extra service such as replacement of fuel filter or radiator flush. I am unable to find recommendations for my '92 Corolla in the owners' manual and everywhere else I have looked. Can someone please tell me an internet resource that would tell me in general how often to do the various maintenance services?Where on the internet can I find information on when to perform regular vehicle maintenance operations? You likely do not need any of this. It is hard to find a reputable mechanic. Most of those places are about sales, not what is really needed. Some even charge for things they do not do. If you need things done like fuel filters, radiator flush, trans fluid change, etc, take it to an actual mechanic, not an oil change facility.Where on the internet can I find information on when to perform regular vehicle maintenance operations?www.Toyota.com/Corolla
1991 honda civic engine slows when headlights turned on?
hi 1991 honda civic engine slows down when i turn on the head lights ? is there any thing serious with it.. i recently changed the batteries, bulb's and radiator on the car.. i bought this car recently from a dealer for kbb value .. if take this car to a mechanic how much would i be charged?1991 honda civic engine slows when headlights turned on?Don't take it to a mechanic for that. The idle needle valve is just a bit far open or there is a small vacuum leak that is making the idle slightly above the correct cold idle setting, about 700 rpm. That prevents the Idle Air Control valve from doing anything - it stays closed - and the extra drag of the alternator when you turn the lights on slows the engine.
My money is on a vacuum leak, and the intake manifold gasket is top of the list. As long as you don't have more distressing symptoms (very high idle, idle %26quot;hunting%26quot;) there is really nothing worth doing with it.1991 honda civic engine slows when headlights turned on?Michael, I am having a different problem with the car and I have my question posted below, could you please let me know what could be causing the problem,

The older Civic's tend to have a weird idle as more electrical accessories are used so it can also be a little normal.

Well well it was the Radiator after all!!?
Ok this am I took my car to sears there is approx 5 in crack on the radiator, when the guy squeezed the hose you can see the coolant coming out. What is your take on repairs, should I get a used radiator, buy the temp seal, or replace with a brand new one. MORE IMPORTANTLY could this have cracked when they did the coolant exchange and secondly if it was a preexisting crack, would they have seen some leakage at the time of doing the exchange...Thats what I really want to know...
Here is the hx from my first post
have a 95 Toyota Camry V4. The other day my car overheated. There was smoke coming from below the hood and the temp gage was at the H level. When I looked at the coolant tank it was empty. So I filled water and coolant in the radiator. About 6 days later I checked the tank again it was empty. So I filled the tank part with coolant about 3 hours later and a 15 min drive later (to some stores) I looked at the tank and it was halfway gone (i filled it to the line). I find it strange that it took 6 days to empty completely but not even 2-3 hours for it to go half way full. So I am wondering if the car is getting worse. I havent had another overheating and the temp gage has been at the middle level. I am wondering what the problem is and what you think the repairs might cost. I am a woman and I have always had a hard time with auto shops because they always seem to take advantage, and tell me that there is so many things wrong with the car. I just want to go in prepared. Thanks

BTW how safe is it to drive like this? I mean as long as I check the coolant tank. I cant afford repairs this minute. And should I fill that tank with coolant or water. Thanks

Oh yeah on July 10th I went to sears and purchased a package deal that inlcuded a coolant exhange, fuel system cleaning and oil change. If there was a crack, leak etc... would they have seen/determined this when they did the coolant exchange??? On my invoice it is says belts, leakage, pressure cap, hoses other all are check off and no recommedation are suggested, and that was done on July 10th is it possible for whatever to go wrong so soon after that. Again I never had a problem with overheating beforeWell well it was the Radiator after all!!?If you keep the coolant level full enough to not overheat, it wouldn't harm your engine. But with a 5%26quot; crack in your radiator it is not going to stay full even without driving your car and building heat and pressure in the cooling system. You need to replace the radiator then add coolant but until you fix the leak use only water to refill it. I run a repair shop and when I tell someone that there is something wrong with their car it is because there is something wrong with it, if your shop needs to drum up business by lying to their customers then find another one. There is more than enough repair business out there without ripping someone off.Well well it was the Radiator after all!!?If it were me I'd be talking to the manager at Sears about what they are going to cover on this repair. If they did a coolant exchange and reported no problem, it's not likely a 5 inch crack would suddenly and mysteriously appear shortly afterward.
I would expect them to repair what they caused by replacing the radiator.
Don't get mad or mean about it, but do tell them what you expect from them.

How do I turn down the heat on my forced hot water home radiators?
The radiator has a knob that says %26quot;off%26quot; turn counter clockwise, I turn it all the way and the heat doesn't seem to go down, I would think that less water would go through the radiator. Any know how th eknob works...do I turn it half way to stop the water from passing through? I know this sounds silly but the knob moves up and down but the heat doesn't seem to change. How do I turn down the heat on my forced hot water home radiators? Most likely, the flow would not change, this switch should regulate the temperature. I would check the gas valve, it may be stuck. Also, if you have an ohmeter, you should see a change in resistance as you turn the temp. control. How do I turn down the heat on my forced hot water home radiators? The individual radiator flow control valves are better left open except for instances where only a few rooms woud be empty, or to lower the water flow volume say in a hot upstairs bedroom. You don't want to restrict them all.
If the whole house is a bit too warm, then the boiler settings should be lowered to the range permitted in your owners manual. If you don't have this, better get a qualified tech as this is a boiler. How do I turn down the heat on my forced hot water home radiators?if these are cast iron radiators they will take a while to cool down. the knob controls a restrictor inside the valve, it doesn't shut the water completely off. this is done because, back in the days when houses weren't insulated, the radiator could freeze. the plate inside has a hole in it to maintain water movement at all times so this won't happen. with cast iron rads you are better off turning down the thermostat to control the heat. good luck.

How to Bypass 1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee Heater Core?
The heater core is leaking on the passenger side of the cabin. How hard is it to do a bypass? How is is it done? Step-by step method. I am a change oil and filter guy and not a mechanic.
The radiator shop wants $500 to replace the heater core. I would like to keep the Jeep for pulling a pop-up camper. How to Bypass 1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee Heater Core?Well, 500 bucks to change the heater core is not too bad, considering the entire dashboard has to be removed to get to it.
Anyhow, it's real simple to bypass the heater. You can't block the flow - it has to always be circulating. Just cut the 2 hoses entering and exiting the firewall with a utility knife and connect them together with a coupler and clamps.
Before you bypass the heater, check that the problem isn't with one of those connections at the firewall. I had leaking antifreeze coming into the passenger side and the shop told me the core was bad and wanted 700-800 to replace it. I decided to do it myself. Bought a core for 79.00. Then started taking things apart. I noticed that one of the hose clamps was loose and was squirting water into the core when the engine ran. Put a new clamp on it and no more leak!removing contact lenses how to format drive

Your radiator on your car is normally 1.57 atm of pressure at 50.0 degrees Celsius. What does the pressure change to if the temperature increases to 128 degrees Celsius? Give an answer and an explanation on how you arrived at it.Radiator on your car is normally 1.57 atm of pressure at 50.0 degrees Celsius. What does the pressure ch?For an ideal gas the equation is pV=nRT
T is in deegres absolute.
So 50掳C=323K and 128掳C=401 K
We can write
p1V =nRT1
p2V=nRT2
Since V,n and R are the same
p1/p2=T1/T2
1.57/p2= 323 / 401
1.57/ p2 = 0.805
p2=1.57 /0.805= 1.95 atm

2003 dodge intrepid 2.7 how to change thermostat bleeder valve housing?
Does anybody know? I know quiet a bit about cars but have never ran in to this! It's on the front top of the engine. The top radiator hose runs into it.2003 dodge intrepid 2.7 how to change thermostat bleeder valve housing?I believe you're talking about the same housing were the thermostat sits in , those aren't hard to replace , just un-clamp the hose going to it , unbolt the housing , then clean the surface on the engine that the housing connects to , clean the housing and make sure that both surfaces are fully dry ,clean the housing were the house clamps onto it , replace the clamp with a new hose clamp when reattaching the hose ,then use a silicone high temperature gasket maker , follow its instructions , make you you tighten up the two bolts enough to force the gasket silicone out some around the edges.
Hope that helps and best of luck.By the way you might be able to find that part at a big U pick auto wreckers for quite cheap like 10 to 20 bucks or so and I'am sure that several different models and years of Dodges use the exact same part.2003 dodge intrepid 2.7 how to change thermostat bleeder valve housing?I take it yours is leaking around the bleeder.it is quite common. at one time you could remove the 4 mounting bolts on top and 2 screws in the front and pull it out the transfer tube.the new ones have a long tube and the upper intake manifold has to come off to change it.

Central Heating Room Thermostat?
I have a Worcester Combi boiler, with theremostatic valves on each radiator throughout the house. However, there is no central thermostat control, thus to make a change means having to go around and alter each radiator individually. I am told that it would now be difficult to wire one from present boiler position to the hallway, and that a remote version would be a better option. Does anyone know anything about these, how effective they are etc? Can anyone recommend one? Thank you in advance.Central Heating Room Thermostat?A simple job to install a wireless thermostat, but MUCH better to use a wireless programmable thermostat, with optimising. This will calculate the building heat loss and adjust on/off times for max economy throughout each day. Look at Honeywell CM900 wireless or Danfoss RT52 RF

Despite popular belief, it IS much better to use a room stat even if you have thermostatic radiator valves, as you can then set a low limit for the system, as you have found out.Central Heating Room Thermostat?remotes work but you have to make sure of the range on it sometimes the difficult wiring would be a better option depending on distance and material

you should be able to HAVE them hooked up central; it would be similar to a zone control systemCentral Heating Room Thermostat?it is actually ideal to be able to control each room instead of heating the whole house when you dont use the whole house at the same time. HOWEVER bear in mind if you pt one in a room with a radiator in the trv must be removed to comply with part L. Best place is on the upstairs landing...alot of people dont have radiators there. Very effective, thet use standard aa batteries

Why is there still smoke coming out of my hood?
I just changed the pipe that goes to my radiator. It had a leak and the coolant was burning off so I thought. Now I that the pipe is changed there is no leak. But there is still smoke coming out. How do I know if it's still the coolant or if it's something else? Why is there still smoke coming out of my hood?try and look to see where the smoke is coming from, if it's still your pipe make sure the clamps are tight, you could still have some wet spots on the engine from the waterWhy is there still smoke coming out of my hood?that,s steam ,not smoke. maybe there is still anti-freeze laying on the intake and burning. if it,s smoke then you might have a valve pan gasket leaking.
How do I balance the radiators in a old pushed hot water system?
I live in an older house (80+ years old) with pushed hot water radiant heat. In the upstairs, two of the rooms and the bathroom are much hotter than the last two rooms. They all have adjustable valves on them, but my landlord said these will only shut off the entire system, not change the flow to each radiator. I think he's full of crap. Does anyone have experience with radiant heat systems and know how the balancing process works or what I could do to get more hot water through the last two rooms. These two rooms are the last on the system too, but the water level has been checked and is full.

Chevy Suburban - how much should a 60,000 mile service cost?
I recently had my wife take our Surburban in for a 60,000 mile service. They did it and the bill was $790.00 ($228 for part; $450 for labor).
They changed fuel filter, PCV filter, transmission filter and changed the transmission fluid and did a radiator flush.
Did I get ripped off? How much should this have cost. What would have been reasonable? Seems awfully high to me considering nothing was wrong with the car.Chevy Suburban - how much should a 60,000 mile service cost?Walter I am a big Chevy fan.I recently bought me a new Chevy Pu. A 07. Something stinks in river city as the coolant is supposed to be good for 150,000 miles. Exactly what $228.00 part did they replace? I'd certainly question that. As for the transmission and filter change look in your recommended services @ 60,000 miles. If the bill was going to be that high they should have explained everything to make you aware of what was coming.
I do know A Chevrolet dealer just tried to rip my daughter who has an 04 Tahoe. They told her that both differentials (four wheel drive) should be drained, flushed and fresh synthetic gear oil installed. As for the high dollar part you should have been notified immediately before they installed it. I'd want a full explanation or refuse to pay for it since you did not authorize the part to be installed.Chevy Suburban - how much should a 60,000 mile service cost?I think thats awful high, I have a house full and a business full of chevy's and I pay that much for part on my diesel but I take twice the material. I do the labor part myself or have an employee do it. Heres a little break down for you.
Fuel filter - tops $20.
PVC $10.
Tranny kit $45.
Oil filter $2.
Fluids tranny, coolant %26amp; oil $60.
So parts $137.
and at my shop you would have paid about $125 for all of that.
They changed fuel filter, PCV filter, transmission filter and changed the transmission fluid and did a radiator flush.

Plus they threatened to fire him just bec he didn't wish to rip people off, so he and my other friends quit.Chevy Suburban - how much should a 60,000 mile service cost?If you really want to know what specific services are recommended open your service manual in your glove compartment.
How many miles for Radiator Flush? I'm at 40,000 now.?
I have a 2004 Toyota Corolla LE. How many miles can I drive before I need to do a Radiator Flush and replace the coolant? I've heard it can be up to 90,000 to 100,000 miles. Is that true? I've driven 40,000 now. I know that my car needs a Transmission Fluid change too, but that's common for every 15,000 or 30,000 miles. I'm taking it in tomorrow for a Transmission fluid change...Do they %26quot;flush%26quot; out the transmission fluid too and just refill it again with new?How many miles for Radiator Flush? I'm at 40,000 now.?I'll address the transmission first. 40,000 miles is a little low for a transmission flush. 75 to 80,000 miles is more like it. The only thing your going to lose by flushing the transmission now is a little money but if you feel like it do it. Make sure the transmission pan is removed and the filter changed at the same time and the transmission refilled with the manufacturers recommended grade of transmission fluid.
Now on to the radiator. Check the color of the coolant. If it's green, it's in good shape. If you see some discoloration in it by all means have the cooling system flushed and refilled with new coolant. I check the coolant overflow tank on my vehicles for discoloration and use it for a guide as when to flush my system. Again the 75 to 80,000 mile range is about where I start to see some discoloration of the coolant.
Hope this helps. How many miles for Radiator Flush? I'm at 40,000 now.?Do it now. And antifreeze has improved itself a whole lot since the early days, so too the rubber hoses.

How many feet of PCV tubing do I need?
I want to replace my rock hard PCV Hoses. I can almost feel it that changing it and the PCV Valve itself (I bought it) along with the Intake Manifold Gasket will help my car.... trust me, if it doesnt I have other suspects, but im working my way up the seriousness ladder.
I may not do it myself. No tools, clamps, knowledge of how... plus I want my radiator flushed, 02 sensor changed, and gonna get other tune-up bits like the spark plugs themselves, oil change, and .... i did a lot of other stuff, too, just syncing it up (Oh yeah, Brake Lines purged, They are icky and my pedal is hard, i know it.)
Just wondering how many feet of PCV hose I need (about) for my 95 Escort, I can almost FEEL the engine having its relief. (New Hoses and belts, at least on those, to look at the pulley to see which one is sticking and squeaking. Nice days work I got for my shops.)
Thanks....How many feet of PCV tubing do I need?No more than 2 feet of 5/32 inch .... 2 feet of 3/16 inch and four feet of 3/8 inch.... that should cover most of your PCV lines.

How to completly flush my cooling system 1996 mazda 626?
i mazda has been over heating the highway and have changed the thermostat and water pump and radiator cap everyone tells me to completely flush the cooling system. well i bought a flush kit from autozone and it tells me to cut a hose and insert the T connector but i do not know what hose from the firewall i should be cutting and inserting it into! there are several hoses that come out from the firewall and they are a bit confusing. if someone can please give me some direction i would be very greatful! How to completly flush my cooling system 1996 mazda 626?If you get one of those kits from an auto parts store and follow the directions it will do a great job. They sell a cleaner that you add to your coolant that will work most of the buildup loose. They do not just clean the heater core. It will clean the entire motor water circuit. But you must follow the instructions. I have one in every vehicle I own and use them every year. There are two heater hoses from the water pump. You may need a repair manual to figure out which one you need. It won't work as well if you put it in the wron hose. Most of them are between 1/2 and 3/4 in dia. Hope this gets you heading in the right direction. Any other questions contact me...... Good luck. How to completly flush my cooling system 1996 mazda 626?cut the heater hose that does not go to the water pump. but that kit is only going to flush the heater core for the most part.
The radiator is plugged (probably) and you need to back flush that with no more than 20 PS!.
stop by a hardware store and get from the hose size down to a picket size, then go nuts.
Flush it back and forth until it runs clear.
I have tried those %26quot;kits%26quot; that they sell and have never had one work.
Unless you have used some stop leak in the car, the radiator is probably gooped up with calcium and that auto parts store crap will not work. you could try some vinegar and an overnight soak, or some true acidic acid, but it gets dicey at best. remember that you radiator is not working so its not like you can get any worse..... right?

I just found out my car has problems with the radiator and transmission fluid. can u help me?
I went to jiffy lube today to get an oil change. they checked all of my fluids and the guy told me my radiator's about toast. He couldn't get any coolant from the radiator cap OR the overflow tank and in the bottom was brown muck that looked remarkably like mud. as for my transmission fluid, IT WAS BLACK! what can i do and how? (provide details)I just found out my car has problems with the radiator and transmission fluid. can u help me?If you are going to Jiffy Lube I assume you typically don't work on your own vehicle(s). Either way, regarding the engine cooling system obviously as you see it needs to be flushed. I really wouldn't recommend doing this job yourself. Not because it is difficult but because it is messy and best done with a power flush machine to be thorough. So if you agree, given the severity of the condition I would have a mechanic power flush the cooling system and check it for leaks. Power flushing can present leaks that would otherwise be stopped with that mud and scale in your radiator now. Make sure they wash out the overflow bottle also. I have seen customers come back to the shop because debris that was missed discolored the coolant. Letting someone do this service for you keeps you clean and gets you back on the road with a service warranty too. Extended life coolant (colored other than green) can last 100k miles if it isn't contaminated. After this service I would plan to check and possibly change your coolant every 24 to 30k miles. Otherwise you may be looking at accelerated breakdown of system components like water pump bearings, hoses and other plumbing, heater core, etc...Particularly considering the current condition.
Assuming when you say “fluid” the transmission or transaxle is an automatic. Regarding the %26quot;black%26quot; transmission fluid or oil, black particulate is clutch friction material (paper) as opposed to shiny particulate (metals). Both are normal within limits but may, or may not be indicative of a problem. Unless you are feeling slip, experiencing shuddering, or hearing clunking noises from the powertrain or specifically the transmission I would just service the transmission if you haven’t already. A full service mechanic as opposed to a Jiffy Lube technician is more likely to be able to tell you the condition of the transmission based on the debris in the bottom of the pan. It would depend on the experience of the Jiffy Lube technician though. They provide services not a diagnosis or repair solution. The fluid and filter (if serviceable) should be replaced roughly every 12k miles. Check your owner’s manual though.I just found out my car has problems with the radiator and transmission fluid. can u help me?sounds like your mixing the anti-freeze with the transmission fluid.you need to change the radiator and change the transmission fluid and filter.

What would stop a car heater from working?
My car's heater hasn't been working lately and i don't understand how that would happen. I thought that the heater just pulled hot air from under the hood? I'll drive my car around for and hour or two and it still blows cold air. Any one know what could be wrong? P.S. I just had the oil changed and the mechanic said the upper radiator hose needed to be replaced, I would think if the engine wasn't getting all the coolant it needed that it would just make the heater work better, no?What would stop a car heater from working? If your radiator leaks, that could be the problem. How do you remove a freeze plug on a 1993 Mitsubishi Eclipse?
I race 4 cylinder race cars. I was planning on changing out the plain water in my radiator to put antifreeze in for the winter. My car won't start and I know it is the computer that needs to be replaced. Since I can't start it I filled the radiator full of antifreeze but cannot start it to run it through the motor. I was going to remove the freeze plug. can someone tell me how too. or something i could do instead. How do you remove a freeze plug on a 1993 Mitsubishi Eclipse?it might be easier to take the timing/ serpentine belt off the pulley's and turn the water pump by hand to circulate the fluid, because taking the plugs out and replacing them can be a pain, while the belt only takes like 10 mins to remove. How do you remove a freeze plug on a 1993 Mitsubishi Eclipse?I have a 98 eclipse turbo, and chnging the freeze plug is a pain in the butt. I don't recommend doing that just to drain your engine, I did, but I was rebuilding engine and it was all taken apart. You must drill a hole in plug, screw a screw in it and pull the old one out, and then pound the new one in, but you can't pound it too hard or it will fall into the engine( by the way, that happened), and you have to pound it enough to get it to seal, and not stick out. The only reason I changed it is because it was damaged and leaking from taking old turbo off. Do you have a haynes manual that covers the 4g63 engine? I have one for the 2nd generation 4g63, but not the 1st gen. It tells you how to drain water from the block, but I can't find mine right now or I would tell you. I know there is a way.How do you remove a freeze plug on a 1993 Mitsubishi Eclipse?Put the car in a heated garage until it thaws or use a salamander heater to thaw your engine. Remove the lower radiator hose to drain the water. Replace with a mixture of 50/50 anti-freeze/water.
Quit asking the same question over and over.
How do you remove a freeze plug on a 1993 Mitsubishi Eclipse?you do not need to remove a freeze plug, just remove the petcock at the bottom of the radiator.

What's wrong with my 2003 Impala?
My 2003 Impala shifts hard! Also when I come to a stop it starts to choke and die, same thing when I am going uphill (only when I am going slow, like turning a corner to go uphill). The engine code says that it's the EGR Valve, but I've replaced it, and it still is doing the same thing. Also last week I gave my car a major tune up:
Changed spark plugs and wires
Changed air filter
Changed fuel filter
Changed Oil/Filter
Changed Trans Fluid/Filter
Changed PCV Valve
Flushed Radiator
I also added Lucas Transmission Fix, didn't help.
I've heard that you can run Seafoam through the Vacuum line. Would this help? And how do you do it?What's wrong with my 2003 Impala?done everything...how about a wash and wax? have you looked for a vacuum leak? spraying along hoses with wd40 see if idle changes
fuel pump????What's wrong with my 2003 Impala?Take it to the certified mechanic before you change everything else in the car. What's wrong with my 2003 Impala?make sure you have the correct amount of fluid in the transmission then go for a drive with the car at operating temp. if it still shifts hard look for a vacuum line that came off the trans where your shift module is. otherwise take it to a trany shop.

How do you change a fan clutch on a 2000 Chevy Blazer 4.3L engine? 2wd.?
Just had engine replaced with water pump, timing cover, and I replaced new the radiator, starter and a few other parts new to save some money considering i had done this. What to do to maintain a used car to keep it in top condition and prevent it from costly repair later?
i have just bought a used 1999 honda accord ex a week ago. i dont know how to do a preventive maintainance. like how often do i have to change the oil, brake pads, brake fluid, radiator coolant, engine coolant, etc. please give me idea. my car has 2.3L, 4-cylinder engine. thanks a lotWhat to do to maintain a used car to keep it in top condition and prevent it from costly repair later?Congrats on the best running cars in the world. You made a great choice buying a Honda.
First did you buy it %26quot;certified pre-owned%26quot; from a dealership or did you buy the car from a private party?
If you bought the car certified pre-owned you should just look into your owners manual that should have came with the car. Look for scheduled maintence in the contents and follow it the best you can. It will tell you how often to change the oil and when to perform routine maintenance. If you are unsure the maintence has been completed just ask the dealership where you bought it.
Now here is the fun stuff. If you bought the car from a private party you should of asked the owner to provide receipts of the maintenance performed. If they can not; you could of asked for a lower price so you can get this maintence performed. Again just consult your owners manual for the scheduled maintenance intervals and follow them the best you can.

First source of reference is the owners manual, it should have come with the car, else you should be able to get it from the www.honda.com web site.
The manual will show you all the scheduled maintenance checks and things to change.
Depending on the number of miles on your car and how it was used and maintained,, you may want to consider the following.
Oil, Oil Filter, Air Filter, Breather Element Change at a big box store for a very reasonable price. If you get the premier service, they will check all the other fluid levels, tires, lights, wipers etc. They will also rotate the tires (take them off and put them on different locations ie.. front to back etc).
Depending on the miles and maintenance check on your brakes, and timing belt to see if they need to be replaced. Same for your radiator fluid (coolant), and transmission fluid.
Finally the hoses should be checked for strength and rot.
If the tires are in good shape tread wise and are less than 7 years old you should be in ship shape.

Sealing leaking radiator?
my radiator is leaking in the bottom form where two panels are joined. the gap seems to be very small as the water is just dripping but makes a big puddle after a while. went to b%26amp;q today, the only thing they offered was liquid that you need to put into water tank for the whole heating system which i can't do because i have communal heating system. the other option they said is to buy new radiator. i have no idea how to change it and the one that is leaking is brand new so i don't want to do it. are there any other options? can i seal it externally?Sealing leaking radiator?Sand it well and then apply a generous amount of JB Weld. Be sure to press it into the crack.Sealing leaking radiator? You didn't specify, but this sounds like an apartment building. If it is, or any other kind of rental, the landlord should take care of fixing it.
No repair will work from the outside. It has to be inside, otherwise, the pressure just pushes it right off.Sealing leaking radiator?call maintenance

How do you know when you need to change your car thermostat?
i just bought a 95 camaro and i want to really take care of it, it recently overheated and that was because the radiator was full of rusty water which wouldn't let the water flow smoothly, i was also told that maybe the thermostat wasn't working properly, i already flushed the whole radiator and now it runs fine but in case it is the thermostat how would i know when i need to change it??How do you know when you need to change your car thermostat?you need to change it anyway, the part is cheap and its easy to do , to answer your question if it runs hot again its the thermostat ps get rid of the water and use coolant but be careful if you have any pets it tastes good to them but is very deadly don't spill any of itHow do you know when you need to change your car thermostat?I would have changed it along with the coolant flush but that's water under the bridge now.
Like many components on a vehicle, a thermostat really doesn't have a specific maintenance schedule - it's replaced when it fails - no or low heat in the winter or overheating in any season. How do you know when you need to change your car thermostat? Before it overheats again. How do you know when you need to change your car thermostat? Most people don't replace it as a maintenance item unless they actually fail but they are so cheap that it really isn't a bad idea to do it while your working on getting your cooling system in shape. You will know it has failed if your car either takes much longer than usual to get up to normal operating temperature (thermostat stuck open) or it starts overheating right away when you are doing city driving (thermostat stuck closed). How do you know when you need to change your car thermostat? If your thermostat was bad, then it would still be overheating. If it's fine now and running at normal operating temperature, then you don't need to replace it. However, if it's running even slightly warm, I'd replace it now. It's an easy job, inexpensive and won't take you long at all. Heck, you may not even get your hands dirty. ;)How do you know when you need to change your car thermostat?Unlike every one believes you should change thermostat every two years,on regular coolant cars, and every three to five years on dexcool cars.

How do i flush the radiator in my car?
the anti freeze in my car is brown, i just took over the car from my grand mother and im sure the anti freeze hasnt been changed in forever. i know how to drain it, but how can i clean the inside? is there a product i can buy to pour in to clean it? or do i just use a hose? How do i flush the radiator in my car? After you have drained the coolant from your radiator go ahead and fill it up with water. You should also put in some radiator cleaning fluid you can purchase at your local parts store. Put the cap back on and run the engine until it gets up to operating Temperature. At this point it has allowed the water and cleaner to circulate through your engine block. Allow the engine to cool down and then drain the water from your radiator. You can repeat this again if you think it needs to have it due to a lot of crud in the water. Some people will tell you the system needs to be reverse flushed but I have found doing it with straight water and radiator cleaner to be very effective. The cleaner is called Nalcool, but there are others on the market and you can get them at your local Napa, O' Riellys, or Auto Zone.
Once you have flushed the radiator out make sure you fill it up with a 50-50% mixture of water and antifreeze. This will protect your engine to the lowest Temperature possible and also keep your system maintained.
As a good measure I always replace the radiator cap when I do a flush like this. Look at the pressure rating on your cap and get a new one when you go to the parts store to get your cleaner.
While your under the hood you can do some minor preventive maintenance too. Check your battery and terminal clamps. If the battery has crud over the top of it then clean it off with a little baking soda mixed with water. Also check your battery terminal clamps. Make sure there isn't any corrosion. If so replace the clamps and clean the battery posts with a terminal cleaner or wire brush.
Go ahead and do an oil change on the engine too. Replace the air and fuel filter/s. Pop the distributor cap and pull one or two of the spark plugs and take a look at them. If they look fouled you might want to go ahead and do a tune up on it at this time too.
Good luck and I hope that helps you!How do i flush the radiator in my car?you pull the drain on the radiator and it should drain out.How do i flush the radiator in my car?there is a product actually called radiator flush. i think it goes in after old antifreeze comes out and before you rinse with hose. How do i flush the radiator in my car?Bottom of the radiator has a plug you turn to open up and drain the radiator.
Have a bucket ready to catch the old. It is against the law (an environmental protection law) to let the old antifreeze leech into the ground.
Open the top fill cap in the radiator.
Once all has drained get a garden hose and put on full blast into the radiator fill.
This will flush out any remaining antifreeze in the engine.
Once the drain fluid looks clear you are done.
Close the drain plug on the radiator and then fill with antifreeze and distilled water to the amount recommended in the owners manual.
Put the old antifreeze into the empty antifreeze bottles and bring to a hazardous liquids disposal place.
Usually a mechanic shop can take this or your town should have a place to dispose of it.
If you try just to let it go into the ground or you throw away in regular garbage and a cop sees this he can fine you.
When refilling make sure you put the correct amount of water to antifreeze.
If you only put water in and you live in a cold climate then when it freezes outside the water would freeze and possibly crack the engine cooling system.
This is why antifreeze is also added. it has a much lower freezing point.
And too much antifreeze and not enough water can cause overheating of the engine block. How do i flush the radiator in my car? There is a product called a Flush Kit from Prestone that you cut the heater hose and install the connections to attach a garden hose to and let it flush out your engine, heater core and radiator all in one complete process.
I've used it before and it works great and you leave it on the car for the next time. How do i flush the radiator in my car?drain the radiator,as bad as your fluid is I would remove the lower radiator hose to do this.Just opening the drain won't let any large chunks of rust and other contaminants out of the system.Refill with water and use a product called Zerex super radiator flush, napa carries it.Most flushes are 10 minutes with Zerex you ad it and drive the car for 3-6 hours pretty much cooking your cooling system clean. Now after you've run the flush(be sure too run your heat on high while running the flush this cleans the heater core behind your dash) I highly recommend replacing your thermostat.Drain the system again and remove the thermostat while it's empty.Put the thermo housing back on with out the thermostat and run clean water to rinse out the chemicals. You can also use the garden hose to fill and drain a couple times just to make sure the water runs totally clean.Replace the thermostat and the hose and refill with the proper antifreeze/water mixture.A cooling system conditioner can be a nice touch and be sure to check all your hose and replace any that need it while you're doing all this work

If you have not got air in the system, then your water pump is faulty, run the engine for 20 minutes and see if the water pipes are solid if they are then you have a head gasket problem if they aren't solid then the water pump has failed, you will need to replace the pump and fit a new cam belt as the water pump is driven by the cam belt, never refit old belt.

How do I replace the power steering main pressure hose in a 1990 Honda Accord?
What tools will I need to replace the main powersteering pressure hose and what are the steps to replace it? I am not a mechanic but I am familiar with changing oil for my car, replacing radiator fan, replacing thermostat, replacing fuel filter, replacing air filter, etc. With my level of expertise, how much more difficult is it to replace the main pressure hose for the powersteering? Do I have to drain the fluid first? Should I wrap up the alternator to avoid spills into it? etc.How do I replace the power steering main pressure hose in a 1990 Honda Accord?the only special tools you'll need is a 14mm flare nut wrench.
start by draining the fluid. You do this by removing the return hose from the power steering reservoir (the hose that does not go to the power steering pump) and place the end into a suitable container such as an old 2 litre soda bottle.
have someone hold the bottle out of the way from the engine drive belts fo that it is at or below the level of the power steering reservir. Remove the cap from the power steering reservoir.
Then start the engine and slowly turn the steering wheel all the way to one side and hold it there for the count of 5. Then slowly turn it fully to the other side and hold it. Do this three or four times and the fluid will have been pumped out of the system. Stop as soon as the fluid flow becomes slight or stops so that you don't damage the pump.
Then you can remove the pressure line from the back of the power steering pump. it has a special banjo fitting but no special tool is required to remove the nut. I think its probably a 10 mm but I'm not sure.
with the hose removed from the pump end, raise the front of the car up. you'll have to get under the car and locate the steering gear. It will be attached to the rear engine bulkhead and have four steel lines going into the control valve. The pressure line has a 14 mm nut. the return line has a 17mm nut. the other two lines are for the power steering cooler. If the cooler lines are the same as the pressure line you'll have to figure out which line is the pressure line by following the hose back from the pump.
use the flare nut wrench so that you don't damage the fitting. Once you break it loose you can usually remove the fitting by hand and then remove the hose. I recommend wearing safety glasses because there may be residual fluid that comes out and you don't want to get that in your eyes.
replace the hose by routing the hose between the pump and the steering gear, then threading in the fitting to the steering rack first then tightening the fitting with the flare nut wrench. then connect the steering hose to the pump end using the special bolt that you removed earlier.
With the hose in place, reconnect the return hose to the reservoir, fill the reservoir with fluid and bleed the air out of the system by starting the engine and following the same procedure you used to remove the fluid from the system at the start. top off the fluid level to the full mark, and check for leaks. If no leaks, then your done.
As long as you have the right tools and some patience you should be able to do this.
hope that answers your questions

Dirty coolant in reservoir, but clean in radiator?
This doesn't make sense to me (or I don't fully understand how the cooling system works). The coolant in my engine and radiator looks like new, nice and green. However, the coolant in the reservoir is dark and brown. This is a Jeep Cherokee with a inline six, Automatic Transmission. I have to add coolant to the reservoir every few weeks because it gets low. I was going to change the water pump, but stopped because I noticed the difference in color between the reservoir and the radiator. Anybody have any advice?Dirty coolant in reservoir, but clean in radiator?getting low coolant without leaks could be due to a blown head. have it checked just in case. also, when temperature is cold , stick your finger inside radiator and wipe around inside. you will get thesame dirt yousee in the reservoir.. time to have a system flushing. the dirt you see in the reservoir could be oil contaminants due to a blown head.Dirty coolant in reservoir, but clean in radiator?that is fine you find that alot... the coolant in the radiator is contained not open to air and other contaminants where the coolant in the jug is open to air and containment's not to mention may even react a bit to the plastic bottle itself..
hope this helps

A question on radiator coolant? how often do you refill coolant to maintain its level?
i think my old car 1992 buick consumes more than usual coolant. i buy at least 3 gallons a year and refill its level evrey now and then. i don't see any leaks though because they changed the hose last year and did some tests.
but this morning, just by instinct- i checked and it's almost empty! had i unknowingly driven it for an hour or so, it may have led to problems.
any ideas on this?A question on radiator coolant? how often do you refill coolant to maintain its level? One should only have to add coolant a couple of times a year, in early summer and early winter. Water in the radiator is another story. In the summer check it regularly and add more water as needed.A question on radiator coolant? how often do you refill coolant to maintain its level?Sounds like you have an internal leak do you notice smoke from the exaust?A question on radiator coolant? how often do you refill coolant to maintain its level?the head gasket is probably leaking a bit into the cylinders. You wouldn't see any leaks because it is burning it off. You may be able to see it in the exhaust. I would look whiter than normal.A question on radiator coolant? how often do you refill coolant to maintain its level? You should check your water and oil/s every day! first thing in the morning is best for engine oil, and radiator water, if your oil is grey colour on the inside of the filler cap or on the dip stick then you have a water leak into your engine this can be caused from a few areas one is the head gasket you can have it checked by a workshop they can use a handy device which has a liquid which changes colour as it detects gases in your water system its a cheap way to check.
Back to the daily check it is common for welsh plugs to corrode and leak without you knowing and this can also empty your radiator over night or on a trip (just a pin hole) can be enough to cause a loss of water. good luckA question on radiator coolant? how often do you refill coolant to maintain its level? Before you do anything drastic buy a new radiator cap and fill the radiator and run it a few days, keeping a check on it and see if that helps.investment property using cute names for baby girl rats

Radiator on a 2006 Mercury Mountaineer. Has anyone replaced one and how difficult was it to do? ?
Our 2006 Mercury Mountaineer needs a new radiator according to the dealership that changed our oil yesterday. The tank seals have apparantly hardened and leak. Nobody that I have talked to thinks that replacing the seals is the solution because the problem will just occur again and they talked like this is a common occurance. If so shouldn't Ford step up to the plate and help you out - warranty or not? Anyway the dealer quoted a price of $640 for installation of a new radiator. I think it sounds outrageous. I know they are no doubt quoting OEM parts and aftermarket parts may change that quote quite a bit but even so it seems really high. I think they said it would be $200 to $250 for labor alone. How difficult are they to change out? I am no mechanic by any means but am not a dummy either. Can a person do this without special tools? I guess if I could get this done for around $300 I would not bother messing with it so if any mechanics out there seeing this price as a possibility please also let me know. Thanks.Radiator on a 2006 Mercury Mountaineer. Has anyone replaced one and how difficult was it to do? ?To add to the above poster's comments, on these particular vehicles the radiator is an absolute pain to replace, even to EXPERIENCED Ford dealer techs, let alone someone who doesn't know what they're doing. Doing this job on this particular vehicle also requires use of the Ford specific transmission fluid cooler line coupler tool to disconnect the lines from the radiator, failing which you will destroy your transmission fluid cooler lines, adding further expense to the repair. $200 to $250 sounds VERY reasonable for labour, considering the difficulty level of this job. And yes, this is becoming a common occurence on these 2006 and up Explorer/Mountaineer vehicles. Hope this helps.Radiator on a 2006 Mercury Mountaineer. How much should it cost to replace the radiator hoses on a 1999 Mercury Mystique?
My mechanic says that all the coolant hoses need to be changed but I don't want to be overcharged. If anyone has had any experience with this I would much appreciate your advice. Thank you!How much should it cost to replace the radiator hoses on a 1999 Mercury Mystique? If you did it yourself probably around 20-30 dollars for parts. A mechanic will probably charge an hour labor and a fee for disposing of the old antifreeze. How much should it cost to replace the radiator hoses on a 1999 Mercury Mystique?First off ,are there any leaks evident? if not he maybe taking you for a ride .Its seldom that all the hoses fail at the same time ,although some will replace em all at the same time as a matter of course.Typical costs will range from $15-20 per upper and lower hoses .Is he talking about replacing the heater hoses as well? add another $20 or so ...these prices do not reflect labor nor other materials like antifreeze that will be needed to be replaced as well.Worst case I wouldnt expect to pay someone else to do the job for more than $150-200 for the job.
How would i and what would i cost to extend my bedroom?
my bedroom is the smallest room in the house and is a small box room - just enough space to fit a bed, a wardrobe and a chair. the kitchen (beneath my room) has been extended before we lived in this house and i wondered if i could extend it out, over the kitchen. the kitchen roof slopes but i think it is possible to make it flat. how much would it cost to knock down the wall, extend it out on top of the kitchen , get a new windows and change the plumbing and radiator position, and any others stuff that is needed that i have forgotten.
any help is very much appreciated but please explain in detail. xxHow would i and what would i cost to extend my bedroom? It's going to be expensive, due to the fact that you are changing the upper roof line. There is no way to know if it's feasible without seeing it. You will need to talk to a contractor in your area to get suggestions, costs, etc. Figure on a minimum of $100/sq. ft., with a top end possibly of $200+/sq. ft. Hope this helps.
